NOTABLE PRODUCTIONS

Yangthola!
Yangthola! is a raw, one hander object-driven performance piece that confronts homelessness, urban precarity, and the brutality of South Africa’s capitalist landscape. The production follows a character who uses discarded materials to reconstruct memory, identity, and survival, offering an unflinching look at life on the margins. Developed under the Yes Let’s Experimental Festival, the flagship programme of The Art Cave, the work is written and directed by Mongezi Ntukwana
Izinyoka!
IZINYOKA! is a three-hander devised by its cast, staged at the Goethe-Institut through the Library Open Call Programme in 2024. Performed inside the library itself, the production offered an inventive, site-responsive exploration of South Africa’s electricity crisis, blending physical storytelling, pantsula, satire, and documentary fragments to expose the social and economic strain caused by ongoing power instability. The piece stood out for its unconventional setting, collaborative creation process, and bold interrogation of a national issue.
The Hyena’s Tuckshop
The Hyena’s Tuckshop is an allegorical children’s theatre piece in which a sly hyena runs a bogus tuckshop selling dangerous, low-quality goods that leave children sick and confused. A quick-witted rabbit uncovers the scheme, guiding young audiences through a playful but pointed lesson on food safety and accountability. Inspired by real incidents where substandard goods led to the deaths of children, the production balances humour, storytelling, and social awareness. Originally staged at the National Children’s Theatre during the Young Directors Festival with a child cast, the show later moved to the Kippies Fringe, where it played to sold-out audiences.
